Riding a motorcycle is an experience and a passion for many, it’ a way of life. While you enjoy the thrill of hitting the road on your bike it’s important to be safe doing it. Here’s a few things you should take care of while riding.
Gear: Always wear the right gear.
Helmet- Always wear a DOT approved helmet, even if the ride is going to be a short one.It could be the difference between life and death in the event of an accident.
Armored Jacket & pants- Wear protective outer clothing made of leather or Kevlar lined jackets and pants with armor in the key areas like the shoulders, elbows back and knees. These will help with abrasion and impact protection.
Gloves & Boots- the most vulnerable in the even of a crash are our hands and feet. Good gloves and boots provide both protection and grip.
Comfort- All this gear should be comfortable and of the right size for you. Too tight and you would be uncomfortable and distracted and too loose would not provide the right protection. Also always take the weather into consideration and gear up appropriately.
Know Your Bike: Pre Ride Check
Tires: Inspect your tires for signs of wear or damage. Ensure the optimum tire pressure is maintained.
Lights: Check that your headlight and tail light are functioning properly and are bright enough along with the turn signals.
Brakes: Test both front and rear brakes before setting off. Also keep a check on the brake fluid, the oil and coolant are of optimum levels and that there are no leaks.
Chain: Make sure your motorcycles chain is well lubricated and not too loose to avoid mechanical issues while on your ride.
Maintenance: Keep your motorcycle serviced regularly according to the manufacturers guidelines to avoid mechanical failures and maintain safety on the road.
Keep Improving Your Skills
Riding Courses- Consider enrolling into an advanced riding course to enhance your skills. These courses teach techniques that can make you a safer and more confident rider.
Practice- Keep practicing regularly to enhance your riding skills. Practice emergency braking, swerving, and low speed maneuvers to better prepare yourself for any situation you may have on the road.
